California Chrome Leads 2014 Preakness Stakes Contenders, Betting Line Favorites

California Chrome is the prohibitive favorite to win the 2014 Preakness Stakes from Pimlico Racecourse. The winner of the Kentucky Derby is -160 to also take the second leg of Thoroughbred Racing’s Triple Crown.

Oddsmakers say the race for place and show is much more suspenseful. Social Inclusion is +500 (or 5-1 based on traditional track betting). Danza is next at +700, while closely behind is Ride on Curlin and Bayern at +1000 according to top sports handicapper Joe Duffy of OffshoreInsiders.com.

Other contenders including Kid Cruz at +1500 and Dynamic paying 18-1 (or +1800). The Preakness Stakes long shots are General A Rod, Ring Weekend, and Strong Mandate each at +2000. default

Odds are also posted on whether or not California Chrome will win the Triple Crown. Yes is +200, while no is -260, perhaps a cheap price considering the last Triple Crown winner was Affirmed in 1978.

One can also bet against winning the Preakness Stakes. Betting the field other than the chalk is +130. Other proposition wagers include the margin of victory as determined by Equibase. The most likely scenario is one length to 2 ¾ lengths at +200.

Joe Duffy’s Picks won with California Chrome in the Kentucky Derby and it considered the best source for Triple Crown and Breeders Cup picks at OffshoreInsiders.com. He will have the morning line Preakness Stakes 2014 winning pick.
