2013 NBA Betting – NBA Weekend Picks For Games On Sunday, March 3

Game 1: Philadelphia 76ers @ Washington Wizards – Sunday, March 3

No matter which online bookie you trust, you should feel that the Wizards have a small but real advantage in this game. The betting websites that focus on basketball will tell you that you that while Washington gets the day off on Saturday, March 2, Philadelphia has to play a night game against Golden State and then turn around for this contest, which is a 6:05 p.m. Eastern time tip on Sunday evening in the District of Columbia. Philadelphia is ahead of Washington in the standings, but not by enough of a margin to warrant the status of a clear favorite. Since Washington gets an edge from the schedule maker in this game, the Wizards – also playing at home – should be able to compete on even terms, given the circumstances. One should then point out that Washington has become a consistently better team over the past month and a half. The Wizards were 4-28 on the morning of Jan. 7, but they then won 12 of their next 21 games, scoring big wins against Oklahoma City, Denver twice, the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta, Chicago, the New York Knicks, and Brooklyn. The Wizards, as you can see, are not merely winning games in 2013; they’re beating a lot of teams that are definitely going to make the NBA playoffs this season. Washington is doing so much more to inspire confidence than Philadelphia is, and that’s why the Wizards are an attractive pick in this contest.

NBA Betting Pick: Washington

Game 2: Memphis Grizzlies @ Orlando Magic – Sunday, March 3

It’s difficult to bet on sports, but when looking at bet online reviews, you have to think that the game between the Grizzlies and the Magic is going to belong to Memphis from the opening tip until the final horn. Yes, Memphis is a solid team, one that will probably host a first-round playoff series, but the betting action on this game should be dictated by the Grizzlies’ opponent, not the Griz themselves.

No team has fewer wins over the past two months than the Magic, who have completely fallen off the map and would be the worst team in the Eastern Conference if not for the Charlotte Bobcats, who have been the NBA’s worst team over the past three months. Orlando was a decent team in December, and actually a solid team in the first three weeks of that month, going 7-4 from Dec. 2 through Dec. 21. However, the Magic have basically disintegrated since then. Any of the good things the Magic did over the first month and a half of the season – when they went 12-13 overall – have evaporated. There was hope in the Magic’s camp that the team would be able to start the second half on a positive note at home against Charlotte, but the Bobcats walked into North Florida and easily polished off Orlando by a double-digit margin. This team is lost and does not seem likely to find itself again before the end of the regular season.

The other thing to point out about this game is that it arrives almost two full weeks after the resumption of play following the All-Star break. Memphis changed its roster with the Rudy Gay trade that brought Tayshaun Prince to Beale Street. The Grizzlies’ lineup should be more settled at this point, and that should help Memphis even more in this game, which should be a romp. Orlando will get crushed.

NBA Betting Pick: Memphis

Game 3: Charlotte Bobcats @ Sacramento Kings – Sunday, March 3

The Bobcats did beat Orlando right after the All-Star break, but that win was quickly followed by losses to Detroit and Chicago. Sacramento has won only three times since Jan. 19, but the Kings at least beat Utah and Houston in that span of time. Charlotte has beaten only one team with a winning record in 2013. Yes, that’s not a misprint – the Bobcats beat Boston on Feb. 11, and their other (few) victims this season have carried losing records. Take Sacramento at home in this off-the-radar offering.
