Game 1: Seattle Mariners @ Oakland Athletics – Saturday, September 29
If betting sites are offering a solid online betting play this Saturday in the world of Major League Baseball, a really good place to start should be Oakland, Calif., for this tilt between the homestanding Athletics and the visiting Seattle Mariners. Jason Vargas is the starter for Seattle, equipped with a respectable 3.94 earned-run average. Dan Straily is the starter for Oakland, taking the mound with a very impressive 3.60 earned-run average.
The thing to realize about this specific game and this weekend series is that the A’s know they’re getting something of a break… a “break” not in the sense of a stroke of luck, but in terms of a respite from tougher games. Oakland’s finishing stretch has been brutal; the A’s have had to play Baltimore, Detroit, the New York Yankees, and the Texas Rangers over the past few weeks. They also know that they will face Texas three more times after this weekend series with Seattle. In order to lock down an American League wild card berth, the A’s know that they have to polish off an inferior and light-hitting Seattle club. That awareness should give Oakland the spark it needs to win this game. What should also help the Athletics is that they’re not facing Seattle ace Felix Hernandez in this contest. As long as the A’s aren’t getting shut down, they should be able to scratch out four or five runs, which should generally be enough to beat the Mariners in 2012. Take the A’s here.
MLB Betting Pick: Oakland
Game 2: Los Angeles Angels @ Texas Rangers – Saturday, September 29
The betonline.com reviews will say that this game is likely to fall into the win column for the Rangers. The Rangers will go with starting pitcher Derek Holland, who has a 4.50 earned-run average but who is gearing up for the playoffs, which he faced with composure last season. Holland knows how to pitch in late-season situations, and since the visiting Angels have not yet decided on a starting pitcher for this contest, it’s hard to give Los Angeles the benefit of the doubt here. Texas, playing at home, will want to wrap up the American League West Division championship before it heads to Oakland on Monday for the final series of the regular season. This simply seems like a difficult spot for the Angels. The pitching matchup just isn’t likely to work for them in this game on Saturday.
MLB Betting Pick: Texas
Game 3: Detroit Tigers @ Minnesota Twins – Saturday, September 29
A bookie agent can only worry about so many things in life. He shouldn’t wonder if Justin Verlander is up to the task for the Detroit Tigers in an important situation. Verlander owns a 2.72 earned-run average. He has been typically strong for the Tigers this season. He’ll be opposed by Minnesota starter P.J. Walters, who carries a bloated 5.88 to the bump for this game. Detroit has the clear advantage – it has not always played well against the Twins this season, but Verlander should be able to hold down Minnesota’s batting order.
