NBC Sunday Night Football Colts vs. Steelers, ESPN Red Sox vs. Yankees Odds, Picks

It’s the Indianapolis Colts taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers plus the ESPN clash between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees. The Steelers are laying (-3.5) and the Yankees (-164) respectively.

Two nationally ranked sports handicappers have free picks for Sunday. We start out with the real Matt Rivers handicapper who likes the Cleveland Indians.

Jarrod Parker was very good for a while but he seems to be running out of gas of late. I like the 23 year old as he probably has a bright future but Justin Masterson was masterful in that last outing and for the somewhat lefty laden Tribe hitters to face what is a regressing righty makes me alright with taking back this price.

Cleveland has been terrible over the past month plus, I get that. They were four or so games back not too long ago and just completely imploded as bad as anybody. The Indians though still have some talent with Choo, Cabrera, Santana and really are a lot better than what they have been showing of late.

Oakland has had a great season and continues to win game after game. They have that intangible for sure but a sweep is never easy and when push comes to shove here I’m alright with Masterson and the potential of his Indians.

Now to The Canadian Crew. Miami Marlins vs Colorado Rockies

Odds: Miami -126/Colorado +117

The Colorado Rockies have been on a roll recently but the good times may be coming to an end tonight. They’re facing off against a Miami Marlins team that’s just about as bad as they are, but today’s pitching mismatch may be too much for the fragile Rockies Renaissance to bear.

Colorado is definitely on a roll this week after sweeping the Brewers in three games in high scoring shootout. The problem with that streak, their longest since June, is that there wasn’t a lot of great pitching going on. Anytime we see a combined 40 runs over three games, that’s a red flag.

Speaking of quality pitching, the Rockies aren’t likely to see much of it when young Drew Pomeranz (1-7, 5.04 ERA) takes the mound. Thanks to the Rockies’ 75 pitch rule, Pomeranz is not seeing his game improve much this season. Over his last 12 IP, over three games, seven runs on 14 hits, including 2 home runs.

Pomeranz has been dealing with soreness in his chest this week and isn’t likely to be in the game too long today. With a Rockies bench that’s been less than impressive this season, things are looking pretty good for the Marlins.

Marlins starting pitcher Josh Johnson (7-9, 3.73 ERA) is considerably more experienced than Pomeranz and, despite dropping his last two starts, has been pitching pretty well lately. In his last start he went eight innings against the Phillies and only gave up one run on three hits. He’s a pitcher with a lot of endurance and could easily wear down the very shaky Rockies.

Colorado may be bringing a some momentum into this series, but it’s not likely to last. The Marlins aren’t a good team, but they are better than the Rockies. We don’t think that the Rockies new found winning ways are going to last into the fourth game of this series.

Take the Marlins in this game.
