The Canadian Crew has a strong bet on the big rivalry Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees (-165) Friday at 7:05 p.m. ET.

Phil Hughes is slated to start for the Yankees.  The right-hander has been pretty average this season, going 9-8 with a 4.09 ERA, but he’s actually been better over the past few weeks.  Hughes has allowed two runs or less in four of his past five starts.  He took a loss against Oakland in his most recent start, but he threw a good game, going 7.2 innings and allowing just a pair of runs.  Hughes was knocked around by Boston earlier this season, surrendering 10 hits and five runs in 5.1 innings, and he’s 2-6 with a 6.49 ERA in 17 lifetime appearances (nine starts) against the Red Sox.

Boston will counter with Aaron Cook.  The veteran righty will be making his seventh start of the season, going 2-3 with a 3.50 ERA before that.  Cook was destroyed on his May 5 debut, then sat out until June 24 with a knee injury.  He went four straight starts giving up three or fewer runs before getting hit a bit harder against the Jays in last week’s outing.  Cook allowed five runs (three earned) through 6.1 innings.  Cook has one career start against the Yanks; he allowed six runs in 5.2 innings.

Both pitchers are roughly on par this season, but Hughes’ track record against Boston is nightmarish.  You can’t trust him, even with New York’s big offense.  Take the Sox.

Canadian Crew pick:  Boston

Chip Rogers Handicapper Past

It’s been said that in politics, the cover-up is worse than the crime. While Grandmaster Sports Handicapper Joe Duffy says GA State Senate Majority leader Chip Rogers committed no crimes simply by being a sports handicapper, his covering up his career selling picks continues to haunt him.

Says Atlanta TV station WSB, “In a Channel 2 Action News Investigation, state Senator Chip Rogers said his connection to the sports gambling industry only went so far as playing a character on a TV show.

Now, new documents have surfaced indicating he also used that name in his own private business dealings.” Complete story can be found here.
