Wimbledon Final Odds: Murray vs. Federer; Free Sports Pick

Today’s free winning pick is from the wunderkinds of The Canadian Crew.

San Francisco Giants v Pittsburgh Pirates

Odds: SF +115/Pitt -125; 8 o/u

The hot hitting Pittsburgh Pirates are hoping to prove themselves as a real contender when they take on the San Francisco Giants today. Both teams are locked in razor tight divisional races and are very serious about putting up wins.

There aren’t too many handicappers out there who saw the Pittsburgh baseball juggernaut coming this season. In fact, the team is on its way to their first winning season since 1992. This, of course, has been a big disappointment to bettors who padded their win/loss record with the team’s remarkably consistent losses.

Things are a little different this year. Heading into this stand they’re 6-4 ATS in their last ten games. The over has paid off in eight of those games (the other two were pushes).

Starting things out for Pittsburgh is James McDonald (8-3, 2.45 ERA). He’s been a bit wobbly in his last couple of starts, but has managed to put up wins in three of his last four starts. Walks have been a problem for him lately, but he’s shown a lot of tenacity on the mound and is working past this issue.

Expect heat and humidity to play a major factor in today’s game as temperatures in the East have been soaring all week. That thick, humid air could help keep SF’s bats quiet and give the Pirates an edge.

San Francisco is starting out with a proven entity, Ryan Vogelsong (7-3, 2.26 ERA). Vogelsong is currently leading the MLB in ERA and is showing no signs of slowing down. Last Sunday he gave up just two hits on three runs over seven innings against Cincinnati. He’s originally from steamy Charlotte, North Carolina, so the heat might not impact his play so much.

The Giants are in the midst of a very tough road trip and just gave up three straight to the Nationals. Over those three games they were outscored 24-12. Now the Pirates don’t have the same pitching finesse as the Nats, but this doesn’t bode well for SF.

San Francisco is 6-4 ATS in their last ten heading into this series and may have a tough time winning in Pittsburgh this weekend. We definitely like the Pirates to steal a couple, including this one, from the mighty Giants.

The Pick: Pittsburgh -125
