Free Baseball Pick on Run Line
Senior Handicapper Matt Rivers of OffshoreInsiders.com has a free pick on the Cardinals (-1.5).
Reasoning: I don’t love St. Louis at all as Pujols and LaRussa are gone and Berkman is now as well. But this isn’t really about the Cardinals as much as it’s about the dreadful Padres on the road with Jeff Suppan.
The Friar righthander actually had a good first few starts to the season but after finally pitching down to his potential I am more than fine with fading him. By the way even when the guy was good in those first few outings he still only lasted a whole five innings. So we’re not exactly looking at a complete game shutout in the making here with Suppan. A mediocre bullpen will pitch a good amount even if Suppan is on.
Meanwhile the Redbird starter is Lance Lynn who has been very very good this season and should be just that against the light hitting Friars. San Diego’s offense is terrible, whether at Petco, Busch or anywhere. Lynn may not have been great in his last start allowing a season-high four runs but the guy is a high quality pitcher who is light years better than the aging Suppan.
St. Louis isn’t great at all but Mike Matheny’s squad is the superior one on the field today and they boast an All-Star caliber pitcher against one who is on his last legs.
This thing has 6-2 written all over it.
