Does the NBA zig zag theory in basketball betting have any validity? That question has been answered beyond reasonable doubt.
Senior Handicapper Matt Rivers of OffshoreInsiders.com has a pick on the Dallas Mavericks (+6.5) to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Reasoning: Dallas probably should have won that first game but the Kevin Durant semi lucky bounce with just over a second to go did them in. The Mavericks could fold up shop and quit after such a gut wrenching defeat but champions don’t do that and Mark Cuban’s squad, love em or hate em, are still the defending champions.
Dirk Nowitzki is great and guys like Terry, Kidd, Marion and a few others have been there and done that. No doubt the regular season was half a disaster as Lamar Odom was a joke and losing Tyson Chandler and JJ Barea turned out to be worse than expected. But the postseason is a brand new season and no matter how great Durant and Russell Westbrook can be it’s the visitors who are still the more experienced and veteran squad.
Oklahoma City has all the makings of being a great team. The majority of the regular season showed just that but things did not exactly end all that great and game one was far from being a clinic by the Thunder.
Dirk and the Mavs are still a dangerous club and to get half a dozen or so is enough for me.
Agreeing with that pick is the best NBA sports handicapper of them all, Bill Tanner.
Dallas Mavericks @ Oklahoma City Thunder
In game two of the Western Conference quarterfinals between the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City; they will get together Monday night. The second seeded Thunder came away with a late victory on Saturday night. The Mavericks finished 36-30 during the regular season, while Oklahoma City went 47-19.
Kevin Durant did it again. Just like during the regular season, the leading scorer hit a game winning shot to down the Mavericks. Oklahoma City was the third highest scoring team in the league with just over 103 points per game. Russell Westbrook was the leader in game one, with 28.
The Dallas Mavericks are the defending NBA Champions. Despite the loss, Dallas has to feel good about their play on Saturday. Dallas will look to even the series up on Monday. On Saturday, Dirk Nowitzki scored 25 points. On the season, Nowitzki leads the way with 21.6 per game.
The Mavericks are 33-34 against the spread this season. Dallas went 13-20 on the road during the regular season. For Oklahoma City, they are 35-32 against the spread, and 27-7 at home. In this game, the Dallas Mavericks are a 6.5 point underdog. We like the Thunder to win the game close, but Dallas to cover the spread. We are betting Dallas +6.5
Tanners Tip: Dallas Mavericks +6.5
