Free Sports Picks From Sports Bet Experts

Time for some free picks for Tuesday. We start out with Senior Handicapper Vic Duke of OffshoreInsiders.com:

U Mass Over (149) for 2 Units **

U Mass/Stanford 7:00: Both of these teams’ offenses are rolling. Defensively, however, they yield plenty of points.

U Mass runs a full court up-tempo system, which encourages teams to run with them. Stanford will surely oblige considering their plethora of talented scorers. On the other hand, U Mass averages 77 ppg and very difficult to stop; for example, on March 20th defensive minded Drexel, which held teams to 56 ppg – top 10 nationally—couldn’t stop U Mass despite a 14 point lead in the second half on their home floor! Stanford’s defense is respectable but not their strength. The Cardinal likes to run.

Chaz Williams and the Minutemen are averaging a healthy 86 ppg over their last 6 games on 44.3% shooting. They get off plenty of shots and a strong offensive rebounding team (11th nationally); however, the drawback to an offensive board crashing team is that for missed rebound opportunities lead to transistion the other way.  Stanford rebounds well and can get out and run. Cardinal 5-1 O/U on a neutral floor and on a 6-0 O/U run. U Mass is 7-2 O/U as a neutral dog. Over it is!

Senior Handicapper Matt Rivers of OffshoreInsiders.com has a free pick on the San Antonio Spurs.

Steve Nash and the Suns have been playing much better of late and are now over .500 at 25-24. They just won at Indiana and Cleveland and are a team that suddenly is feeling a whole lot better about themselves compared to the 14-20 record about a month ago.

But it’s almost as if the world just doesn’t seem to realize how good the Spurs still are. Yes Greg Popovich’ squad is getting long in the tooth and may fizzle out again in the playoffs but Tony Parker has been unbelievable and Tim Duncan is playing the best he has played in a few years. Plus the former Wake Forest star was just given the night off in that last game and should be fairly fresh and ready to run here in the land of the sun. Add in Manu Ginobili and a well-rounded team with plenty of weapons and I’m not so sure if it’s a fluke that San Antonio for the second straight season has been nothing less than phenomenal in the regular season.

The Spurs are the most workmanlike and professional squad in the entire NBA. They’ve won four in a row and seven of their last eight and are 33-14 overall. They have been scoring a boatload of points and are winning games going away including in Oklahoma City against the Thunder.

Phoenix is much improved but are they this improved, as in to have to beat San Antonio in order to cover? My answer is no.

Top expert pick on this game: San Antonio (-1.5)

Now to the NIT and Bill Tanner. Massachusetts vs. Stanford

The UMass Minutemen and Stanford Cardinal will get together on Tuesday night in the final four of the NIT.  The Minutemen were the fifth seed in the region of the NIT. Stanford comes in as the third seed. UMass is 25-11, while the Stanford Cardinal are 24-11. UMass plays out of the Atlantic Ten, while the Cardinal play in the Pac-12.

The Stanford Cardinal finished with 10 conference wins, but that placed them 7th in the Pac-12. The Cardinal beat Arizona State, but then lost to California in the conference tournament. In the NIT, the Cardinal has downed Cleveland State, Illinois State and then Nevada. Stanford was at home for all three games.

The Minutemen finished fifth in the conference, and then fell to St. Bonaventure in the conference tournament. In the NIT, the Minutemen have yet to play at home. Their first round win was in two overtimes at Mississippi State. Following that, UMass went to Seton Hall and then Drexel and came away with wins.

The Minutemen have won 2 of 5 games on a neutral court, while Stanford has split their four games. Stanford is 17-15 when playing against the spread on the season, while Stanford has won 19 of 32 ATS. We are looking for Stanford to win this game, and meet up with Washington in a re-match of the two games they played during the Pac-12 season.

Tanners Tip: Stanford Cardinal -2.5
