Sweet 16 Picks Louisville vs. Michigan State, NBA Odds Clippers vs. Hornets

The Sweet 16 is here and so are some free picks from top handicappers. We start out with the Duke, Victor Duke. Louisville (+5) for 2 Units **

L’ville/Michigan State 7:47: In the NCAA Tournament in 2009, Michigan State was a 6’ point dog to L’ville. I was all over Michigan State as the Spartans shredded Pitino’s press and ran away with an easy 64-52 win. It doesn’t take Pitino many wrongs before he rights the ship. He’s been a very successful coach making adjustments and sports a 9-0 SU mark in the Sweet 16.

The Cardinals are not going to change their aggressive full court style; it would be foolish to sway away from what got them here. What they will do is tweak their system here and there determining a weak thread and exploiting it; similar to what Majerus did against Appling (laying off and forcing him to shoot). St. Louis covered btw. Pitino knows Michigan State can run with any team in the land; however, the Cardinals have played against a multitude of styles this year: from half court grind it out teams to full court throttle break neck speed and came away successful more times than not. I like Pitino and the Cardinals now in the dog role.

Cardinals have covered 8 of their last 11 as a dog. Michigan State sports a strong record as a favorite in the NCAA’s; however, Izzo and company also control a disturbing 8-20 ATS mark as a favorite in this spread range. Cardinals the call.

Another one of the best handicappers in the world expert betting picks, Senior Handicapper Matt Rivers of OffshoreInsiders.com has a betting pick Thursday is on the New Orleans Hornets (+3) to LA Clippers.

Reasoning: Sure New Orleans is one of the worst teams in the league this season and not having Eric Gordon once again will hurt. The Clippers are talented and deep and the far superior team on the court tonight. They are led by a pair of stars in Chris Paul and Blake Griffin but this recent schedule thanks to the abridged season is just absolutely daunting and should lead to the visitor’s downfall in this situation.

Not only are the Clips playing for a third straight night with all of them being on the East Coast but they are now running around for the 9th time in the last 12 days. I understand that Paul would like nothing more than to smack down his former team but I just don’t see how today’s visitors won’t be running on fumes. There are certainly spots where this shortened season is going to kill a team and this is the epitome of such.

The Hornets are on a back-to-back after just hosting and losing to the Warriors last night. That isn’t easy but both of these games are at home and Paul’s former franchise was just off for three days before yesterday’s game, which has not involved any travel today. I can see Jarrett Jack and the Hornets have that little extra pep in their step tonight facing an exhausted Clipper side.

No doubt LA is the better overall team and will try and bring game but I just am not sure how they really can in such a difficult and almost unprecedented spot.

The pick: New Orleans
