NFL Betting Lines Week 8: Vikings vs. Panthers Sports Handicapper Picks Senior Sports Handicapper Matt Rivers has a sports betting pick winner is on the Minnesota Vikings (+3) to Carolina.

Reasoning: Cam Newton has impressed me beyond belief and is a legitimate Pro Bowler for years to come. I also don’t mind this rejuvenated Carolina squad as they play hard and seem to cover game after game after game. But to lay a field goal plus without much of a run defense against Adrian Peterson and the Vikings just seems a bit rich for me.

Matt Rivers says Cam can't cover today

I wouldn’t even be shocked if the Panthers get another victory today on the field but fail to cover the number in the end. Christian Ponder has looked pretty capable in his five quarters of action. The former Florida State star impressed me mopping up in the blowout loss at Soldier Field and last week held his own against Aaron Rodgers and the Super Bowl champion Packers. I’m not exactly saying that Ponder is Newton and will make as many plays but the guy is far more capable than Donovan McNabb and with Peterson running the rock as well as he has been he doesn’t have to be.

Minnesota isn’t great and has no shot to go anywhere this season with Green Bay, Detroit and Chicago in the NFC North. But Carolina is without John Beason and Thomas Davis once again which will open gaps for the Minnesota rushing attack shortening the game and keeping the Vikings in it from start to finish.

Jared Allen and the defense is aging as these guys have gotten long in the tooth but the Panthers are still not a team that is used to the favorite spot and it will show after 60 minutes.

Top expert pick on this game: Minnesota

For more information: Matt Rivers says that yesterday Georgia took care of business in a 500,000* winner as I improved to 4-2 with my highest rated bombs on the season. I have another one today in ridiculously rare back-to-back fashion. One play and one play only needed on this NFL Sunday in this near pick-em fire hot lock from the Great Northwest involving the Bengals and Seahawks. Can Cincinnati pick off another win improving to 5-2? Is Seattle going to embarrass themselves once again? What’s with Tarvaris Jackson?
