Will the Chargers and Philip Rivers Take It Up a Notch?

Made up of Breeders Cup betting powerhouse the San Diego Chargers, followed by middleweights the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs and basement dweller the Denver Broncos, the AFC West has turned into one of the most intriguing divisions in the last two seasons. A year ago, the San Diego Chargers started slowly out of the gate, which in turn led to the Kansas City Chiefs swooping in to lay claim to the price per head AFC West title. This year, the Chargers are once again having a mediocre season, which in turn has allowed Oakland and Kansas City to stay in contention for the bookie softwareAFC West crown. Here is a look at how the AFC West became amazing.

Rivers is not overflowing with good play

It’s been a tale of two different West divisions this season. On the one hand, the San Diego Chargers are continuing what appears to be an annual slide from the class of the division down to the middle of the pack. On the other hand, Oakland has gone from being the most stable franchise of the four, to losing their owner and experiencing a quarterback carousel. What’s more, after starting the season on a three game losing streak, the Kansas City Chiefs have become one of the hottest teams in the NFL, winning their last three divisions.

However, if you listen to the media inside and outside the AFC West, the consensus NFL pick to win the division is the Denver Broncos. Currently sitting at a two and four record, the Broncos have given up on Kyle Orton in hopes of turning their season around under fan favorite and former Florida Gator Tim Tebow.  The latter of who has received a ton of praise in recent days, because of his comeback against the Miami Dolphins with three minutes left in the game. Despite being awful for the first 57 minutes of the game, Tebow was able to find success against a terrible Miami squad.

This weekend will be a tough one for three of the four teams to make up the AFC West. On the one hand, the aforementioned Denver Broncos will travel to Detroit to take on a Lions team that has appeared to be fading quickly after dropping their last two games. Yet, the Lions unlike the Dolphins are a team that if you give them any chance of hope, they will shut you down. Meaning to say if Tim Tebow can’t play a full 60 minute game, the Lions should cruise to victory.

Then in the Monday Night game, a heavyweight matchup takes place, as the San Diego Chargers take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City. San Diego has been lucky this season, as the current four and two winning record is quite misleading. Essentially, the Chargers have struggled with quarterback Philip Rivers only throwing seven TD passes to nine interceptions. With Kansas City riding a three game win streak, Rivers needs to step his game up.
